Description
Hoary Vervain is a great plant for butterfly gardens. The purple flowers bloom a few at a time from the bottom of the panicle to the top. They attract a number of different bees, butterflies, moths, wasps, bee flies, and other insects. The bugs visiting the plant will feed a variety of birds that will eventually revisit the plant to eat seeds. Hoary vervain produces many seeds and they germinate easily as long as they have good soil contact; dead-head plants to prevent them from re-seeding too much if that is a concern.
Uses: drought tolerant, pollinators, host plant, birds, deer resistant
Bloom time: May - September
Height: 2 to 4 feet
Space: 1 to 2 feet
Sun: Full sun
Moisture: Dry to average; well-drained
