Q: Would it be best to order and plant this tree now in November or order and plant in April? I'm in Iowa, have a perfect semi shade location in a woodland setting. Thank you.

No, it wouldn't do well in full sun. The leaves will likely turn yellow, and the plant will go dormant earlier than normal. It will do well in direct morning sun for a few hours, but will need shade during the hot afternoon.

Yes, though it is a slow-growing plant and will take several years to reach a substantial size.

Right now, they are under 10 inches tall. They are a slow-growing species. Our potted plants are currently not big enough to bloom. Mature plants growing wild or in flowerbeds are blooming now in Missouri.

We grow it from seed. The seed ripens in mid-May and, once ripe, quickly falls from the branches. It can easily be missed if you aren't paying attention. We sow the seed within a few days of harvest and wait for it to germinate the following spring, usually in April.

They are hardy and can be planted now or you can wait until early spring. They grow slowly, so planting them now will give them a head start.
