Q: regarding the Missouri Primrose: what is the time frame after seeds are sown that plants germinate and actually produce blooms? If purchasing plants can they be planted in the fall for spring blooms? Thank you

Q: my Missouri primrose has yellow flowers and close to the ground is a four bladed formation. Is this the seed pod? Do I collect them and let them dry, or just place them on the ground for self-germination? I can't seem to find any information regarding this appendage. Most just talk about harvesting the seeds from the dead flowers.

Seed should be sown between Nov & Feb and should germinate by April. It will most likely take a year before they bloom. Potted plants planted now should bloom next year.

It is unlikely. Our seed did not germinate well last year, so we came into this spring with very few plants. The few that we have are not growing as vigorously as we'd like. It's possible we'll make them available in a month or two, but more likely we'll have to wait until this fall 2017.

It sounds like you have found the seed pod. The seeds will be in the axis of the four blades. When ripe, the seed pod will be brown and papery. You should be able to pull it apart fairly easily, and the seeds will fall out. Sow the seed in late fall or winter so that it gets the cold, moist stratification that it needs.

Not right now. Our source for O. speciosa no longer exists, so we haven't offered it for several years now.
