I planted one of these in Spring 2020, and it is doing very well. It has grown many inches in just one year as well as gotten fuller. I put a chicken wire fence around it with plenty of room for it to grow to keep away the predators.

Q:
I have a ninebark bush planted in full shade and has never bloomed. What can I do to encourage it to produce blooms?
Asked by:
Ann
- 10/9/2018
A:
I'm not sure if you can do anything other than add a little fertilizer or compost. They perform better in sunnier areas, but should still be fine in shade.
A brief search online for "ninebark doesn't bloom" led me to a discussion about this problem involving the 'Diablo' cultivar. The most helpful/encouraging info was that it can take 4 years before it matures enough to bloom. Maybe yours isn't quite old enough yet.

A:
Soil fertility and other growing conditions will affect how large ninebark gets, but it typically grows 4 to 6 feet wide.

Q:
How old (how much closer to the year they will start blooming) are the pots in gallons vs. the pots in quarts or are they all the same age(s)? If it is propagated by cutting, will it think it is old enough to bloom as long as the "parent" plant is of blooming age? Thanks.
Asked by:

A:
They are grown from seed, not cuttings. It's difficult to say from year to year what the age difference is between the two sizes. Right now (August 2019) the plants in gallon pots are significantly larger and have multiple stems. Most of the quarts have a single stem.
Ninebark is a pretty fast grower and could potentially bloom a year or two after planting.

Q:
Ninebark Will it adapt and grow in Harrison Arkansas
Asked by:
Lynn
- 4/25/2020
A:
If Harrison is in Boone County, Arkansas, then ninebark appears to exist there naturally already. It should be fine to plant some.
