Description
Rose gentian is a very showy biennial wildflower. A basal rosette of leaves will form the first year and persist through the winter. Fragrant, pink flowers appear the second year throughout most of the summer. It can be found in wet prairies, marshes, glades, old fields, woodlands, along roadsides, and often in slightly acidic soils.
It is a bitter tasting plant and may be suitable where deer are a problem. A leaf tonic has been used medicinally to encourage appetite.
Uses: Deer tolerant, medicinal, bees, showy flowers
Bloom time: March - May and often in fall
Height: 1 to 2.5 feet
Space: 1 to 2 feet
Sun: Full sun to light shade
Water: Average to moist
