Lovely small tree
We have these growing wild on our south-sloping limestone glade hillside. The ones growing with a bit of afternoon shade stay attractive longer than the one in full sun, and flower more than the ones in full shade. They can be pruned to make a very ornamental twisty knarley tree. They do have spurs which can limit your wanting to get really close. The birds love the berries.

Questions and Answers
Q:
I read that multiple viburnums are needed to have best fruit production. And I would need seed grown viburnum to preserve genetic diversity, not clones. I could squeeze in 2 if that is required for best fruit production. My goal is to create great wildlife habitat.
Asked by:

A:
Ours are grown from seed.

Q:
I've heard that some viburnums are susceptible to jugulens and should not be planted near walnut trees while other viburnums are resistant to it. Are any of the viburnums you offer ok to plant near walnut trees?
Asked by:
Laura B
- 4/11/2021
A:
It may depend on how close to the walnut you plant it, but I have a rusty black haw in my yard within 30 feet of a black walnut and it is doing fine.

Q:
I am on the hunt for some fragrant, show-y, flowering shrubs to put in a new pollinator garden in front of my house. Does this fit the bill? I would really like to smell it in the air when I leave the house.
Asked by:
Christina Reilmann
- 3/12/2021
A:
This one is showy, but not necessarily fragrant. You need Golden Currant (Ribes odoratum) to fill the air.
