Q:
My plants have turned brown and the stems have fallen over and break easily like they are dry. I planted them on a partly sunny hill and watered them regularly, I'm not sure what I did wrong. I hope that the roots are alive and the plants are stressed from being replanted?

A:
It looks like we need to update the description for starry campion. It is normal for them turn brown and go dormant during the growing season. Especially after they have bloomed and are setting seed. They are usually pretty hardy and should come back next year (or potentially sooner in the fall). They do not need extra water if they are turning brown; if they are green but wilting, then they do need some water.
