Thimbleweed foliage can provide a lush, green background for shorter plants in a formal flower bed in areas with dappled shade. The white flowers and fluffy seed heads are also attractive. Some small bees and flower flies visit Thimbleweed looking for pollen; deer and rabbits will avoid Thimbleweed due to the unpleasant, irritating agents it contains. It could be used in container gardening.
Native Americans have used the roots to treat whooping cough, tuberculosis and many other ailments. They also used the plant to revive unconscious people and to "divine the truth about acts of a 'crooked wife'."
