Long Lived
This plant was already present in our yard when we moved here about 14 years ago. It seems to be extremely long-lived. It also "moves around" as do some ferns that were also here. We have traveling wildflowers apparently moved by ants during the year, including bloodroot, which reappear in new places around the yard! The bluebells emerge from the ferns and the combination is quite nice!

Ms
Virginia Bluebells add really beautiful color to my flower bed. They take very little care, spread easily, very reliable in Spring. Easy to love.

Q:
Do you sell seed for Virginia bluebells? Or is it best to propagate the plants by divisions? A friend let me dig up a couple plants from her garden last year-they are very small and will take a long time to spread under my walnut grove. I would like to accelerate the process. Thanks

A:
We sell bluebells seeds occasionally. It depends on how much seed we harvest. We collect the seed in early May, so you should check for availability in late May or June and sow the seed asap if we have it. It won't germinate until the following spring, but you should go ahead and sow it right away.

Q:
Are these deer resistant?
Asked by:
Mike Rusert
- 4/9/2020
A:
Most sources list it as deer resistant. One says that deer may occasionally browse the foliage while another says it is rarely "severely" damaged by deer. Deer will likely avoid this plant unless there is little else for them to eat.

Q:
if I order Virginia Bluebells, should I plant them now? Since they are currently dormant, and come up in the spring, I'm not sure how it would work.
Asked by:
Pamela Cawthon

A:
Yes, you would plant them now even though they are dormant. They should bloom next spring.
