Beautiful forest wildflower. Needs organic soil. A spring ephemeral that goes dormant in late June, so plant among other species.
Seed: This species may lose viability if stored for too long, so we typically so it as soon as possible--January at the latest.
200 seeds per packet
9,650 seeds per ounce
1 ounce per 300 square feet (yields 30 seeds per square foot)
Uses: Showy flowers, hummingbirds, butterflies, bees
Bloom time: April - May
Height: 1 to 2 feet
Space: 16 to 24 inches
Sun: sun to shade
Moisture: average to moist

A:
The best time to sow the seeds is soon after they are harvested: late April/May. But you can sow them anytime between then and December. Bluebell seed loses viability if kept in storage for too long. It needs endure a cold, moist period in order to germinate.

Q:
What other species would be good to plant among bluebells? They will flop over and outwards to 18" from the root-center, so do the accompanying plants need to be planted more than 18" away?
