No, a single plant should produce fruit. However, a second plant nearby may help attract more pollinators.

Are two trees (bushes) necessary for cross pollination of wild plum? I have one from another source that is now 8 years old, 15 ft.. tall, and has had one plum on the tree each of the last two years. Numerous flowers, but so early few bees are out...?
