Questions and Answers
Q:
Does this keep its foliage during winter? Do birds eat the berries? I would like to get a couple of shrubs for the birds to winter in, or nest in and one that provides food. Can you please help? Thanks!

A:
The foliage is unlikely to remain overwinter. If it does, it will fade from bright red to brown.
Birds do eat the berries. Thickets of winged sumac do provide cover for birds and wildlife. Most birds don't nest over winter, so a nice brush pile can provide some shelter.
